When I first met Johan, he had just started college and moved to Västerås. He started working for the students’ union where I was already working and we got to know each other. Although he was a hard worker (and still is), he was just a young man finding his place. He even had hair back then.
Over the years, we have not only become better friends, but I have also had the chance to see someone grow and mature into quite a remarkable man. The young boy vanished along with the hair and today he is one of the most generous, competent and intelligent people I know.
I was lucky to be there the night when something clicked between him and this cute girl who snuck up beside him. I had never met her before, but there seemed to be something unmistakable happening between them. When they went to the bar for a drink, I decided to leave. They probably never noticed I was gone.
A few weeks later I met Maria again, now introduced as his girlfriend. Over the years since then, I have gotten to know another remarkable person, someone who is open and charismatic and makes everyone around them feel great, someone who remembers things about you that you don’t even remember having told. Together they have stayed with us many times, just hanging out or heading off on adventures. Maria is always enthusiastic when I need to try out new things with my camera and need someone to model for me.
I am very happy to have them as my best friends and I was very honoured when they asked me to tell their story.
To shoot someone’s wedding is a huge responsibility not to be taken lightly and this wedding was very much their day. Filled with family and friends and set in beautiful Vallsta, Hälsingland in northern Sweden on the family farm, they had spent the whole week preparing for everyone to come. I am certain that everyone had a great time and got a taste for Hälsingland.
It can not get more genuine than this.
This wedding is also featured on Vintage Honeymoon.
